"Son's success has inspired the younger generation here," she says. She has witnessed a sea change in attitudes toward football from the South Korean community, first with the arrival of Ji-Sung Park at Manchester United, and then with the national team's success at the 2002 World Cup, where it reached the semifinal as co-hosts.īut she believes it is the success of Son that has sparked a new wave of hysteria, patriotism and pride. You Mie whose parents came to Britain in the 1980s, grew up in New Malden. You Mie Hur, a football journalist, poses outside her family’s restaurant in New Malden. "I don't know how they got my number, but I think my mum has been throwing it around and telling everyone I know Son," she says with a laugh. Her phone does not stop ringing with people begging her for tickets. You Mie, a Korean football journalist and a part-time waitress at her parents' restaurant in New Malden, has spent the past couple of years writing extensively about Son's success. "I wasn't here when Son visited, but my father says he liked the barbecue," she says while talking through the photos of the Tottenham player. Standing proudly by the tables, You Mie points to the hundreds of photos of her with stars of South Korean football, while signed shirts adorn the walls of her family's restaurant. Walk through the doors of the restaurant and it's suddenly apparent that this is not just a place for the locals, it’s the place where South Korea's footballers, including Son, come for a taste of home. Just off the high street is one of Ji’s favorite restaurants, You Me, named after You Mie, the owner’s daughter. His performance and achievements have established Son as one of the most exciting players in the Premier League, while earning him huge popularity both in Korea and much nearer his new home.īut perhaps for the Korean community of New Malden, or as local councillor Jaesung Ha calls it, “Little Seoul,” the pride is even greater. That fee has been more than repaid since, with Son scoring 18 goals in 53 appearances last season alone. His success earned him a move to Bayer Leverkusen in 2013 where he caught the eye, persuading Tottenham to pay a reported $28 million for the forward. “When I see that Son has done it, it gives me the belief that I can do it too.”įor Min-Kyu, like so many other South Koreans across the diaspora, Son’s success has become a source of national pride.īorn in Chuncheon, northeast of the capital Seoul, Son made his name first in Germany after moving to Europe as a teenager with Hamburg. “He is a living example of what I have always said that hard work will always beat talent. ![]() He works so hard, he scores goals, he always gives 100%. ![]() Park Ji-Sung was good but Son is at a different level. “It’s so hard to become a professional football player but he’s moved from Korea, to Germany and to England, where he has become one of the best players. Wearing his gray soccer kit, his boots constantly clicking against the tiled floor, the 11-year-old is lost in a parallel universe, far from the distracting noise of electric clippers and the faint smell of hairspray.īut then, as seems to happen so often in this part of the world - that is, New Malden in suburban southwest London - ears prick up when the name “Mr. Sitting in his parents’ hair salon, Min-Kyu is buried in his computer game. ![]() ![]() ![]() The Workspace concept, which plays a big part of in own workflow in Cubase, is also present and correct if you like to define different sub-window layouts for different types of audio editing tasks or different display configurations, it’s both easy to do and worth doing! You get comprehensive control over the placement and sizing of your various sub-windows within that single window and, if preferred, you can also float sub-windows, for instance if you are working with multiple monitors. First, Wavelab is now based upon a single-window concept. The redesign is built around two key elements. Hey, Good LookingĪlthough the aforementioned core functionality is both retained and expanded upon in Wavelab Pro 9 it will - initially, at least - present established users with something of a surprise, as one of the key changes in this release is a fairly substantial redesign of the user interface. Here, therefore, I’ll focus on what’s new in v9.Īnd that’s quite a long list, which includes a fairly substantial reworking of the user interface, some very tempting new options for audio mastering, intriguing new Mid/Sides processing capabilities and improved links between Wavelab and Cubase for those also involved in music production. So, while the visuals may have changed somewhat - of which more in a minute - core functionality remains the same. SOS has, of course, covered these features in detail in our reviews of previous major incarnations of the software including v8 and v7 (December 2010 this was when OS X support was added to the existing Windows support). Existing users will find that v9 still delivers the full range of audio editing functionality they have come to expect. Perhaps the first thing to say, therefore, is that all those features are still present and correct. Wavelab has, over the years, developed a pretty substantial feature set. Wavelab 9 is now with us and, in line with the recent rebranding of Steinberg’s Cubase DAW package, the full version of v9 bears a ‘Pro’ label, while there is also a more streamlined version called Wavelab Elements 9. In August 2013 ( Martin Walker looked at, and was suitably impressed by, Wavelab 8. Its user base is a diverse one which includes musicians, audio professionals in radio, film and TV, mastering engineers, audio analysis and those involved in forensic audio. Over its 20-year history, Wavelab has become a well established and highly sophisticated environment for the creation, editing and conversion of audio in all its forms. Wavelab Pro 9 incorporates a significant redesign of the user interface that makes it highly customisable.Ī reinvention of Wavelab’s user interface aims to make its powerful feature set easier to use. ![]() ![]() ![]() It can make the game seem less flowing, but there are other times where the scoreline reaches points that would make grown Brazilians cry. With FIFA, the defense is more consistent and the positioning seems smarter. Meanwhile, there are other matches that become end-to-end goal matches. You have times where nobody has scored for 90 minutes. At times, the AI in PES 2016 will feel exceptional and tight, but there are other times where it can feel woefully bad. In fact, their biggest weakness is where the new FIFA has proven strongest. ![]() With those things in mind, Pro Evo does not do well in everything. They have a movement that looks realistic and convincing. You can watch as players fight for the ball or stumble over each other. While FIFA has excelled at this for years, PES 2016 just raised the bar and took it to another level. With this year's game, Konami has transformed it all into one of their biggest triumphs. In last year's game, the biggest failing that could be found was the unrealistic interactions between the players. You will feel surprised at how closely Pro Evo replicates the actual game in terms of gait, pace, ball control and finishing power. Sometimes, you almost feel like you can see the personalities of the players based on their playing styles. There are also player interactions among each other that help to make the collaboration and game feel more realistic. It could be the smart controls or the way the ball physics feel. What Pro Evo Gets Right: Hard to Pinpointīecause Pro Evo has made so many tiny improvements to the game, it can sometimes be difficult deciding what they got right. Nevertheless, all this stuff will fade into the background after things go right with the pitch. It can be somewhat depressing hearing that the open field is wide open when you are being harried almost mercilessly. Other times, the commentary in PES 2016 fails to respond at all. With other sides, however, it can feel unconvincing, and it will not take you many matches before you realize that there is somewhat generic and repetitive commentary. For example, the commentary from Jim Beglin and Peter Drury are almost adequate when you look at the licensed Champions League teams on the pitch. While Pro Evo has started to gain some momentum in delivering a match that has a more realistic atmosphere, it still lags behind FIFA in some areas. It depends on what you are looking for in your football game. It's a close tie, but you have to take the claims that PES 2016 stomps FIFA this year with a grain of salt. In fact, the ball animation and ball physics cannot be beaten by FIFA 16. With that in mind, the cloth dynamics and players' skin has never looked better in a PES game, which is definitely one aspect that has moved forward. Those who are overly critical might complain about the grass looking too flat or the effects of the footfalls on wet turf being too unconvincing. This has given Pro Evo a better edge than its rival. With that in mind, you have superior detail, more fluid animation and better lighting. This year's PES has chosen to use the same FOX engine that could be found in Metal Gear Solid 5. When it comes to the graphics, however, PES 2016 pales in comparison to FIFA. If you think quickly, you will be rewarded, and if you play clumsy, it will be punished. In fact, it does a better job at comparing and capturing the actual flow of the game. With that in mind, should you choose PES 2016 or FIFA 16? With the utmost certainty, Konami's latest football game plays faster paced than the EA rival FIFA 16. FIFA creates a more accurate depiction of the sport while Pro Evo does a better job at capturing the feel of the game. In general, it can always be iffy comparing this to FIFA because the two games handle in distinctively different ways. With the arrival of the 2016 game, PES has changed what remained of the PS2-era gaming, and they have delivered a much faster and more fluid game of football. Instead of big improvements, PES 2016 is the type of game that has been improved in dozens of small ways, and they have all had an accumulative and positive effect. Explaining the improvements in PES 2016 can be somewhat of a challenge because the improvements do not lend themselves to something snappy, and it can be difficult to point to a single change that was made that will make a difference. ![]() ![]()
![]() ![]() As I wandered around Zeta Halo, a grassy environment that's clearly reminiscent of the first entry, I quickly learned that the grappling hook was more than just a way to climb up. This Halo was my oyster (or more fittingly, a broken disc-shaped sea creature of some kind). I could rescue some nearby soldiers, go hunt for new equipment, or take on notorious targets. Judging from my map, which was populated by taking over that FOB, there was plenty to do. ![]() Before me lay a chunk of Zeta Halo that I could explore freely. After clearing out a Forward Operating Base (or FOB) filled with baddies, I was presented with something rarely seen in Halo: choice. I made may way to the nearby semi-destroyed ring world, dubbed "Zeta Halo," along with my soldier buddy. Update your settings here, then reload the page to see it.īut a few hours in, once I showed that ape who was boss and acquired a Cortana-like AI called "The Weapon," Halo Infinite finally opened up. This content is not available due to your privacy preferences. (Bungie's Halo 3: ODST, in particular, was a unique attempt at delivering a human-focused story in a world filled with super soldiers.) Once again, I feared that the studio would be too afraid to push Halo into fresh territory and reach the heights of Bungie, the franchise's creator. It was as if I was walking down the same corridors and fighting enemies that I already faced in Halo 4 and Halo 5: Guardians, the previous two games developed by 343 Industries. Sure, it was nice to be back in Master Chief's shoes after six years, but it still felt like a retread, even with the addition of a new grappling hook. To be blunt: Halo Infinite's opening had me worried, especially after its year-long delay. In short order, he was back in action taking down feisty grubs, plowing helmet-first into increasingly bigger firefights and going toe-to-toe with angry looking space ape. It starts off with Master Chief drifting in space, where he's miraculously rescued by a human soldier. Playing through the game's first few missions is like plowing through an abridged Halo campaign, for better or worse. Only problem is its very loud.Stop me if you've heard this one before: In Halo Infinite, you play as the Spartan super-soldier Master Chief who must defeat a dastardly group of aliens (somehow, the Banished returned!) before they take over a mysterious ring world. Then I got the amr and damn its hard to imagine a sniper weapon that can top this for long range. AMR- I was using the silenced remington m-700 which was powerful enough. The m14 is one of the best weapon designs in real life so of course I am going to have it with me. Ms14 with extended mags and red dot- This gun is great for medium range engagements and fighting enemies behind cover. I have killed 3 pirates with one blast before. I killed the rare undying bear with two! shots to the chest. It does a stupidly overpowered amount of damage and makes dealing with predatory animals a joke. The gun fires fairly quickly and holds a ton of shells. "Bull" shotgun- this is what I have been using as my main charge stopper. I will probably replace this with the shadow when I unlock it. Sometimes I swap in the mp5 or the silenced pistol and even the bow but they all fill the same role. ![]() Silenced SMG with extended mags- I have been using the second smg with a silencer with great results. Im still on the first island but I already feel like a badass with some very deadly weapons. ![]() |
